WES statement on coronavirus and WCE2020

28 January 2020

The World Endometriosis Society is monitoring carefully the unfortunate outbreak of coronavirus in China – three months before the 14th World Congress on Endometriosis in Shanghai.

Whereas the CDC has issued a warning against travel to China right now, no warning has been issued for May 2020 and, furthermore, WHO advises against the application of any restrictions of international traffic “based on the information currently available on this event”.

Therefore, for the time being, WES is committed to delivering a cutting edge scientific programme at WCE2020 in Shanghai, 8 – 11 May 2020.

More information about the spread and, hopefully, containment of the coronavirus will no doubt become available in the next few days and weeks, when we will be better equipped to provide advice regarding the safety of travel to China in May – or whether it becomes necessary to move WCE2020 to another country.

WES will issue another statement by 12 February 2020.

In the meantime, we have moved the early bird registration deadline to 25 February 2020.

On behalf of the WES board of directors,

Neil Johnson
WES president
