Mathew Leonardi is a minimally invasive gynaecological surgeon and sonologist at McMaster University in Canada. He was awarded his PhD from the University of Sydney, which focused on the utility of ultrasound in the diagnosis and surgical management of endometriosis.
He is currently leading or involved with a variety of local and multicentre international projects on endometriosis, ranging from studies on pathophysiology to assessment of surgical outcomes. His specialty research focus is novel imaging- and biomarker-based diagnostic tests. He has built a team of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate trainees at McMaster University and regularly welcomes international observers and elective trainees.
Mathew has published over 80 peer-review articles and presented at several international congresses on endometriosis, including a keynote on diagnosing endometriosis at World Congress on Endometriosis 2023.
He is currently co-authoring the Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines on Endometriosis. He is an Associate Editor for Reproduction & Fertility and on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was selected as a World Endometriosis Society Early Career Ambassador in 2020 and an Early Career Board member in 2023.
