Paolo Vercellini

Dr Vercellini is a gynaecologist specialising in the management of endometriosis. His research interests include investigation of some pathogenic aspects of the disease, and assessment of medical and surgical treatments. He joined the “Luigi Mangiagalli” Institute, University of Milano, in 1977 as a medical student, and received his MD in 1981 from the Universit√† degli Studi of Milano, having the honour to work with Professor Giovanni Battista Candiani. Dr Vercellini completed the residency in Ob/Gyn at Milano University in 1985 and, under the guidance of Professor Luigi Fedele, initiated the activity of the Mangiagalli Endometriosis Centre, now a national referral service for women with severe disease forms.

Vercellini collaborated for 15 years with Professor Pier Giorgio Crosignani and during this period (2002) obtained the position of Associate Professor at the University of Milano. He was elected a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) for the years 1995-1999. Since 2009 he is an Associate Editor of Human Reproduction.

He is author or co-author of more than 200 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and has an h-index of 52 (Institute for Scientific Information).

Vercellini has served on the WES Board since 1998, and is the immediate Past President of the organisation that represents in the world all the issues related with the disease he has been working on for his entire professional life.
