Paola Viganò was born in 1965 in Como, Italy. In 1989 she graduated in Molecular Biology at the University of Milano and in 2000 she finished her Residency in Experimental Endocrinology at the School of Pharmacy of the same University. At the University of Siena she obtained a PhD in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology under the supervision of Professor Felice Petraglia. She was a fellow in Reproductive Medicine at the San Raffaele Hospital and at the Scientific Auxologic Institute in Milano.

Her research activity is particularly devoted to molecular, endocrinological and genetic aspects of endometrium and endometriosis with a scientific production in the field of endometriosis research that has been consistent for over 15 years, in strict collaboration with most of the leading experts in the field.

Paola Viganò is the co-author of >120 peer-reviewed international publications and has contributed numerous review articles and chapters. She has obtained several grants from the Italian Ministry of Health to study aspects of the immunology, genetics, and animal models of endometriosis. In 2006, she has also acted as consultant for the Italian Senate Investigation on the social aspects of endometriosis.
