Professor Chapron graduated from Lille University of Medicine in 1991 and was named a University Professor in Paris in 1999. Since 2005 Professor Chapron is the head of department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology II and Reproductive Medicine at Cochin University Hospital.

He is the coordinator of the teaching programme of obstetrics and gynaecology at Cochin Port-Royal Faculty of Medicine, chairman of one University diplomas, Director of 20 medical thesis, and has authored and co-authored almost 300 peer-reviewed papers in national (103 publications) and international (195 publications) scientific journals concerning surgical laparoscopy in gynaecology, reproductive medicine, and endometriosis, and has delivered more than 650 scientific presentations in national (295) and international (372) meetings.

He is the coordinator of 11 scientific books and the author of more than 80 chapters in other scientific books.

Professor Chapron is a reviewer for a number of journals including Human Reproduction, Fertility and Sterility, British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, The Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, and Gynécologie Obstétrique et Fertilité.

Previously he was the Secretary General of the French Society of Endoscopy in Gynecology (SFEG), the Associate Secretary General of the Francophonic International Society of Pelvic Surgery (SIFCP), Co-ordinator of the Special Interest Group (SIG) of Reproductive Surgery of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), and the Secretary General of the French society of gynaecological surgery, Société de Chirurgie Gynécologique et pelvienne (SCGP). In 2011 Professor Chapron was elected President of the French Society of Gynaecologic Surgery (SCGP).

Professor Charles Chapron is also a Member of several national and international Societies including the French National Academy of Surgery, the International Society for Gynaecologic Endoscopy (ISGE), the American Association of Gynecologist Laparoscopic (AAGL), the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the European Society for Gynecological Endoscopy (ESGE), the World Endometriosis Society, the French National Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and the French National College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

During the last decade, Professor Chapron has been intensively working in the Port-Royal University Clinic, Cochin University Hospital, together with a highly specialised team in endoscopic surgery on techniques and results of operative laparoscopy in gynaecology and on the pathogenesis, the assessment of, and the surgical and medical management of endometriosis.
